About the Role
Revel is seeking its first security engineer to establish the foundation for protecting its platform, infrastructure, and customers. This role involves building security programs from the ground up, securing a platform that controls physical hardware across cloud, on-prem, and air-gapped environments, and influencing product design. The position offers the opportunity to grow into a leadership role as the company scales.
Responsibilities
- Define Revel's security strategy, architecture, and roadmap, and implement it.
- Threat-model the product end to end and translate findings into security requirements, design reviews, and testing.
- Collaborate with product and engineering leads early in the design process to integrate security.
- Harden infrastructure including Linux hosts, physical systems, cloud accounts, Kubernetes clusters, CI/CD pipelines, endpoints, and SaaS tools.
- Implement security configuration as code and automate security processes.
- Build scanning, secrets management, dependency controls, and auditable releases into pipelines.
- Develop logging, monitoring, and alerting systems from scratch.
- Lead incident response and vulnerability management.
- Manage compliance with ITAR, NIST 800-171, CUI handling, and CMMC, integrating evidence and reporting into systems.
- Serve as the primary security contact for customers, handling questionnaires and architecture reviews.
- Partner with engineers on threat modeling and secure design, and educate employees on security best practices.
- Contribute to defining future security hires and shaping the security team.
Requirements
- 7+ years of hands-on security engineering experience with depth in infrastructure security across cloud, on-prem, and physical systems.
- Experience in product or application security, including threat modeling, secure design reviews, and securing software interacting with hardware or embedded systems.
- Production experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, AWS CDK, or similar) and securing CI/CD pipelines.
- Experience securing containerized, cloud-native environments (Docker, Kubernetes).
- Working knowledge of NIST 800-171, CUI, and related frameworks, with the ability to implement requirements in modern infrastructure.
- Experience conducting security architecture reviews and implementing defensive controls across endpoints, SaaS apps, and infrastructure.
- Proficiency in at least one general-purpose language (Python, Go, Rust, or similar) for building tools.
- Strong production Linux experience.
- Judgment to prioritize effectively and ownership to complete tasks without a predefined playbook.
- Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. lawful permanent resident, Refugee, or Asylee, or eligible for required U.S. Department of State authorizations.
