About the Role
Help shape the future of robotics in construction by extending XYZ Reality's technology toward robots that can operate reliably in dynamic construction environments. This role involves hands-on work with robot hardware and software, focusing on algorithmic control and testing in real-world scenarios.
Responsibilities
- Integrate robots with XYZ’s software, including ROS/ROS 2 interfaces, robot control, sensors, compute, and data flows.
- Build repeatable tools for robot bring-up, configuration, logging, and monitoring.
- Establish reliable baseline control and develop task-specific behaviors for navigation, positioning, and capture.
- Train and tune control policies in simulation and validate them on hardware.
- Develop localization-aware path planning, waypoint execution, and obstacle handling.
- Turn work plans and BIM-derived locations into robot missions in collaboration with project and site teams.
- Integrate capture payloads to ensure reliable data flow into XYZ’s construction progress workflows.
- Collaborate with navigation, SLAM, and perception teams.
- Design test scenarios and measure mission completion, coverage, localization quality, intervention, recovery, and repeatability.
- Improve the system through measured iterations.
- Bring technical expertise and new ideas to the program.
- Compare scripted, motion-planning, and learning-based approaches.
- Help shape the future direction of the robotics program.
Requirements
- MSc or PhD in Robotics, Controls, Computer Science, Mechatronics, or a related discipline, or equivalent applied robotics experience.
- Hands-on experience building, programming, or directly controlling a physical robot from an academic project, research lab, or industry.
- Strong Python and C++ skills.
- Practical ROS experience, ideally ROS 2.
- Working knowledge of kinematics, coordinate frames, feedback control, state estimation, path planning, and robot hardware.
- Experience training or tuning robot control policies (e.g., reinforcement or imitation learning) using NVIDIA Isaac Lab/Isaac Sim or similar tools with a rigorous experimental approach.
- The right to work in the UK. Visa sponsorship is not offered.
