About the Role
The EU Compute team is seeking a Staff Engineer to provide technical leadership for infrastructure work that spans multiple teams and brands. This role involves setting platform direction, solving complex problems, writing production code, and guiding other engineers. The position offers an opportunity to build a global platform and influence future engineering practices.
Responsibilities
- Own challenging infrastructure problems to enhance platform operability and safety.
- Set technical direction for shared AWS and Kubernetes infrastructure, balancing reliability, security, developer experience, and cost.
- Lead substantial initiatives from design through rollout and operation, coordinating dependencies across Wolt, Deliveroo, and DoorDash, with a focus on GPU workloads.
- Evolve Kubernetes clusters, cloud networking, identity, and infrastructure provisioning.
- Build reusable Terraform patterns and self-service tooling for safe and consistent infrastructure provisioning.
- Improve deployment and operational practices, including GitOps, observability, capacity planning, and incident response.
- Utilize production signals and developer feedback to identify platform friction and measure change effectiveness.
- Support the platform, focusing on GPU infrastructure and general compute.
- Manage the sunsetting of legacy infrastructure and tooling, and create strategies to reduce toil.
- Mentor engineers through design reviews, implementation, and incidents to improve infrastructure work quality.
Requirements
- Deep experience building and operating Kubernetes and AWS infrastructure in production.
- Familiarity with GPU workloads and orchestration is a plus.
- Strong software engineering skills using Go, Python, or similar languages for tools and automation.
- Experience with infrastructure as code (Terraform) and designing systems for other engineering teams.
- Proven track record of leading complex technical work across teams, including architectural decisions, delivery, and operational follow-through.
- Ability to collaborate and design across team and domain boundaries with hands-on impact.
- Strong judgment on trade-offs in distributed systems, networking, security, reliability, and cloud cost.
- Clear communication skills and ability to align teams around a practical technical direction.
