About the Role

Stanley Consultants is seeking a Senior Protection and Control Engineer with a strong background in high voltage substation design. This role involves leading design efforts and performing design duties with minimal supervision on multiple projects, determining client requirements, coordinating technical efforts, and managing design budgets and schedules.

Responsibilities

Detailed design of protection and control systems for high voltage substations including creating or modifying single-line and three-line diagrams, AC and DC schematics, wiring diagrams, cable and conduit schedules, detailed bills of materials, bid units and material counts, control building and relay panel layouts, and SCADA, RTUs and communications systems design.
Performing electrical system studies and analysis.
Performing load flow, short circuit, and arc flash analyses.
Coordinating with other disciplines.
Performing site visits for data gathering and asbuilts.
Writing material procurement and construction specifications & evaluating contractor bids.
Performing protective relay coordination and settings.
Conducting factory acceptance, witness testing and reviewing shop drawings for spec/design conformance.
Reviewing client equipment and design specs and confirming conformance with industry standards and best practices.
Performing typical calculations such as equipment and conductor sizing, voltage drop, conduit and cable tray fill, AC loading and battery sizing.
Generating engineering fee estimates.
Providing field support during construction and commissioning.
Mentoring and teaching less experienced engineers and design staff.
Occasional overnight travel may be required for client meetings and or site visits.

Requirements

BSEE from an ABET accredited University
10+ years of protection and control design experience
Experience working directly with clients, supporting marketing proposals/efforts preferred
Experience managing a design budget and schedule preferred
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Must be able to work legally in the United States for any length of time
PE license required
Ability to obtain TX PE required within 6 months of hire
