About the Role
Ultra is seeking a Product Engineer, AI Enablement to develop and deploy tools that enhance the company's effective use of AI. This role involves collaborating with various teams to identify AI leverage points and translate them into reliable internal tools and workflows, focusing on both software development processes and broader company operations.
Responsibilities
- Own AI tooling adoption across Ultra, identifying areas for AI-driven velocity improvements, building or integrating solutions, and driving user adoption.
- Develop the internal AI stack, including services, workflows, interfaces, model integrations, and agent infrastructure.
- Enhance agent competence and trustworthiness within Ultra's codebase and systems, covering context, tool access, review, testing, and CI.
- Collaborate with operations, deployment, data, and business teams to create leverage-enhancing workflows and hand off maintainable systems.
- Build a reusable layer with connectors, shared context, templates, examples, and guardrails to enable others to extend shipped solutions.
- Evaluate the AI tooling ecosystem to determine adoption, composition, or build decisions for Ultra.
- Partner with infrastructure and security teams to ensure AI tools have necessary access while mitigating risks.
- Measure adoption, productivity, and tool trust, scaling successful tools and retiring ineffective ones.
Requirements
- Strong software engineering fundamentals with a track record of shipping backend services, internal tools, integrations, automation, and interfaces (Python and/or TypeScript).
- Experience shipping agentic systems or LLM-powered tools used by real people, with the ability to articulate their limitations.
- Fluency with modern AI coding tools and strong opinions on their application.
- Proficiency in determining when to build, buy, or use conventional scripting over agents.
- Consideration of evaluations, permissions, secrets, and safe rollout as integral product components.
- Ability to work effectively with non-engineers, translating ambiguous workflows into scoped and useful solutions.
- Clear written communication skills and comfort driving adoption beyond just coding.
- 4+ years of production software experience, with demonstrated experience in shipping similar systems being more critical than the exact year count.
