About the Role
OneView is seeking a Senior Platform Engineer to join the DevSecOps team. This role is responsible for building and securing the platform that all other OneView teams rely on. The position is an individual contributor role reporting to the Sr. Director of Platform Engineering.
Responsibilities
- Build and operate cloud infrastructure, taking backlog items through to production, documentation, and monitoring.
- Write and maintain infrastructure as code with the same standards as application code (reviewed, tested, version controlled).
- Build and improve CI/CD pipelines, automating manual delivery steps.
- Develop components of the internal developer platform (IDP).
- Build monitoring, alerting, and dashboards to proactively identify and address issues.
- Track consumption and cost against service metrics, warning before thresholds are reached.
- Participate in the on-call rotation, providing first response and root cause analysis for incidents.
- Handle production support work through on-call or backlog items.
- Share knowledge about recent changes during incidents to aid in quick resolution.
- Test backup, archive, and disaster recovery procedures by running restores and failovers.
- Maintain security and compliance of production and development environments.
- Work with security engineering on hardening, guardrails, and remediation.
- Provision, refresh, and deploy environments through repeatable automation.
- Ensure non-production environments are consistent and free of production data.
- Build and maintain automated compliance and non-functional validation checks in pipelines.
- Generate evidence of control application and requirement fulfillment for customer or auditor review.
- Collaborate with the test automation team on performance, scalability, resilience, security, and vulnerability testing.
- Provide environments, instrumentation, and platform knowledge for testing.
- Interpret test results with the test automation team.
- Work with software engineering, QA, delivery, and customer implementation teams on cross-functional backlog items.
- Mentor junior engineers.
- Propose improvement ideas to the technical product owner and provide evidence for ranking justifications.
Requirements
- 5+ years in DevOps, cloud engineering, platform engineering, site reliability engineering, or IT operations.
- Experience running production systems for enterprise customers.
- Proficiency with version control systems like Git.
- Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS or Google Cloud, including compute, networking, IAM, storage, and managed services.
- Experience with containerization and orchestration tools like Docker and Kubernetes.
- Experience with infrastructure as code tools such as Terraform, Terragrunt, CloudFormation, OpenTofu, or Pulumi.
- Experience with CI/CD tools like CircleCI, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI/CD, Jenkins, or Bamboo.
- Proficiency in scripting languages like Python or Bash.
- Experience with Linux or UNIX operating systems.
- Experience with monitoring and observability tools such as Datadog, Splunk, Grafana, Prometheus, or New Relic.
- Experience designing and building backend services with REST APIs in languages like TypeScript or Python.
- Experience writing and maintaining infrastructure as code modules through peer review.
- Experience building CI/CD pipelines with automated policy or control checks.
- Ability to debug network issues (DNS, TLS, load balancing, routing).
- Ability to size infrastructure against throughput and concurrency models with adequate headroom.
- Experience being on call for production systems and leading incident response and root cause analysis.
- Working knowledge of cloud security practices (least privilege, IAM, secrets handling, encryption, network segmentation, WAFs, logging, audit trails, pipeline guardrails).
- Experience producing evidence accepted by third parties (auditors, regulators, customer technology teams).
- Proven ability to test recovery by running restores or failovers against stated objectives.
- Experience working with test functions on non-functional testing (performance, load, resilience, security).
- Ability to build environments and instrumentation for testing.
- Ability to write documentation in Markdown.
