About the Role
The Internal Sales Executive drives new 401(k) plan sales through financial advisors via phone, video, and email. This role involves prospecting, qualifying advisors, conducting discovery and platform demos, building proposals, and managing the sales cycle from initial contact to onboarding. You will collaborate with the external sales team, covering advisors and territories they cannot reach in person, and handing off relationships requiring field coverage. This is a quota-carrying position reporting to the Head of Advisor Sales, and as an early hire, your input will shape the team's playbook, messaging, and tools.
Responsibilities
- Build pipeline by prospecting financial advisors, RIAs, and broker-dealer reps through outbound calls, email, LinkedIn, and inbound marketing leads.
- Lead discovery calls, deliver virtual platform demos, and qualify plan opportunities based on size, timing, and fit.
- Gather census and plan data to prepare proposals and fee illustrations, coordinating with pricing and operations for non-standard requests.
- Guide advisors and plan sponsors through paperwork and conversion, then ensure a smooth handoff to implementation and service teams.
- Support external wholesalers with demos, proposals, and follow-up, establishing clear ownership rules for advisors.
- Cultivate advisor relationships through regular check-ins, education, and new-plan campaigns to foster repeat business.
- Maintain CRM accuracy by logging all activities, keeping forecasts precise, and reporting pipeline status weekly.
- Share market intelligence, including competitive insights, objections, and product gaps, with sales leadership, marketing, and product teams.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Marketing, Communications, or a related field.
- 2+ years of experience in a wholesaling or client-facing role focused on retirement plans.
- Demonstrated experience supporting and building a territory through advisor, intermediary, or partner distribution channels.
- Retirement industry expertise, including defined contribution recordkeeping, ERISA, fiduciary models, and plan design.
- Strong consultative sales and relationship management skills, with the ability to engage advisors, TPAs, plan sponsors, and other key partners.
- Ability to clearly position complex solutions, including investment structures, share classes, pricing, and total plan cost considerations.
- Excellent communication and territory management discipline.
- Strong presentation, organization, and follow-through skills in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency with CRM and sales tools.
- Ability to operate independently while collaborating effectively across internal teams.
- Experience selling retirement plan recordkeeping and administrative services.
- Experience working with advisor-sold retirement plan models and intermediary-driven distribution.
- Familiarity with plan design, fiduciary governance, retirement investment lineups, and sponsor-level solution positioning.
- Existing network of financial professionals, TPAs, and DCIO relationships in the assigned region.
- Experience supporting both new business development and retention of existing retirement plan relationships.
