About the Role

Lyft Mapping is custom-built for the high-stakes, split-second realities of the rideshare experience, solving unique challenges for drivers with glanceable turn guidance, complex pick-up & drop-off dynamics, and real-time, AI-powered route assistance. This role will tackle challenges related to driver navigation and rider pickup experiences, with end-to-end ownership. The Senior Product Designer will advocate for a user-obsessed culture, partner with cross-functional teams, and lead core Mapping experiences.

Responsibilities

  • Own core experiences end to end, leading design for Mapping's most important user-facing surfaces from problem definition through launch and iteration.
  • Drive cross-organizational alignment by partnering with cross-functional leaders, synthesizing feedback, and building consensus.
  • Work at the systems level by building reusable design-system components, tooling, and map assets.
  • Hold a high quality bar by benchmarking Lyft's map and navigation experiences against leading products.
  • Support accurate implementation by partnering closely with engineering and content design through build, edge cases, and launch.
  • Lead through ambiguity by taking complex, loosely defined problems and driving alignment across teams.
  • Raise the work and work-ers around you by giving critique, communicating complex design decisions clearly, and shaping team processes.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of product design experience, with a portfolio showing end-to-end ownership of complex, shipped mobile experiences.
  • Experience designing maps, navigation, or location-based products.
  • Strong craft in interaction and visual design, and the ability to prototype at high fidelity.
  • Strong advocate and experimental mindset with AI-native prototyping and tooling.
  • Upholds Design+ quality by interpreting and applying UX Standards (Accessibility, Safety, Reliability, Usability, and Lyft Product Language).
  • A proactive mindset driving cross-team collaboration, self-directed in ambiguity, and receptive to giving and receiving feedback.
  • A track record of systems-level work: design-system components, reusable patterns, tooling, or assets adopted beyond a single feature.
  • Close, effective partnership with product, engineering, data science and content design, including owning the details through implementation.
  • A rigorous quality bar, informed by deep familiarity with the best and most innovative map and navigation products.
  • Clear communication of complex, ambiguous work to broad groups and senior stakeholders.
