About the Role
OKX is seeking a Deputy General Counsel and Head of Legal, UK to lead the UK legal function, provide strategic legal advice to the UK business, and collaborate with global legal colleagues and senior business leaders on regulatory, commercial, and strategic matters. This role is a key part of the UK management team and represents the legal function at relevant Board and committee meetings.
Responsibilities
- Support OKX's business expansion into the United Kingdom, serving as the primary legal point of contact for the OKX U.K. entity.
- Support the business in licensing and legal efforts to expand into the U.K. Market.
- Ensure OKX is a valued contributor to the developing legal frameworks in the sector, including representing OKX in relevant industry associations and promoting OKX's viewpoint in consultation efforts.
- Support the business in virtually all legal coverage areas, including product development, regulatory matters, IP and trademark enforcement, corporate governance, licensing efforts, token listings for OKX U.K., contract negotiation, compliance legal support, institutional sales and partnerships, and marketing and advertising.
- Analyze and advise on the legal risk of new and existing digital assets and manage the legal component of the new asset review process.
- Collaborate with product and business development teams to achieve company-wide projects and goals.
- Manage legal requests from all areas of the business and effectively advise on legal concepts and legal risk with an eye towards the strategic goals of business leaders.
Requirements
- Law degree at a top-tier law school and qualified to practice law in the U.K.
- 14+ years of legal experience at a top-tier law firm and/or in-house legal team, preferably in the cryptocurrency/digital assets and/or financial services industry.
- Experience advising on digital asset and blockchain technology legal issues.
- Basic understanding of the relevant legal and regulatory landscape.
- Experience working with the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) and obtaining U.K. financial services and/or crypto exchange licenses.
- Comfortable working independently in a fast-paced, growth-stage and multi-cultural environment.
- Ability to effectively advise and build trust with business teams.
- Ability to navigate through a rapidly-changing legal landscape and deal with legal ambiguity.
- Ability to work in a high-functioning legal team and feel comfortable in a collaborative working environment.
- Self-starter, quick learner who is highly driven, proactive, responsive and precise.
- Experience working on cross-jurisdictional matters and a global legal team.
- Direct legal experience and an enthusiastic belief in the digital asset space.
- Excellent writing and analytical skills.
- Deep experience in financial services and digital asset regulation, U.K. licensing, marketing and advertising, and contract law.
