About the Role
As a Senior Product Manager, German Public Sector & Defence, you will ensure Wire develops the right product for one of its most strategic markets. You will connect customer and market work with product leadership across one or more of our value streams, such as Messaging, Calling, File Sharing, and Core Platform features. You will develop a deep understanding of customers in the German public sector and defense, bringing this context into our product organization. This is not a role in operational delivery management; scope and engineering teams are responsible for backlogs, agile processes, and delivery. Your task is to ensure our teams solve the right problems for the right reasons and that product investments remain aligned with customer needs, commercial opportunities, and Wire's strategy.
Responsibilities
- Build trusted relationships with customers, prospects, and partners, representing Wire's product organization in senior-level product discussions.
- Collaborate with Sales and Partnerships on major sales opportunities, RFPs, and tenders, providing credible product expertise and evaluating customer requirements.
- Monitor the commercial pipeline, strategic customer commitments, and new market opportunities.
- Align with one or more value streams on clear goals, desired outcomes, and priorities in line with Wire's product strategy.
- Translate customer and market needs into clearly formulated product problems and opportunities for scope and engineering teams.
- Incorporate customer, commercial, and business context into key product and prioritization decisions, ensuring teams understand the rationale behind priorities.
- Identify dependencies across value streams and coordinate product alignment when customer needs affect multiple parts of the Wire platform.
- Work closely with Information Security on customer requirements related to security, assurance, accreditation, or regulation, with a clear separation of responsibilities between Product and Security.
- Ensure product capabilities and direction are accurately represented in the market by collaborating with Product Marketing and the Commercial team.
- Build trusted working relationships with key customers, prospects, and commercial stakeholders in German government and defense.
- Define clear goals for the value streams you manage and provide clear product direction for the most valuable cross-product opportunities.
Requirements
- Proven experience in directly engaging with high-level customers and commercial stakeholders, translating their needs into product direction.
- Strong product judgment: differentiate underlying customer problems from desired solutions and individual requests from overarching market opportunities.
- Experience setting product goals and outcomes, influencing the priorities of scope and engineering teams.
- Strong commercial acumen and the ability to communicate credibly with both technical and non-technical audiences, making clear trade-offs.
- Experience working with products for government, defense, critical infrastructure, or other highly regulated sectors, as well as public procurement and complex sales cycles.
- Experience with secure communication, collaboration software, enterprise SaaS, or security-oriented technology products.
- Understanding of digital sovereignty requirements in Germany and Europe.
- Experience working across multiple product teams or value streams.
- Existing Ü2/Ü3 security clearance or the prerequisites and willingness to undergo the process.
