About the Role

TransPerfect is seeking freelance linguists to translate and proofread documents for clients in the Life Science industries. This client-facing Language Lead position involves quality management and coordinating a team of linguists, ensuring deliverables meet the highest standards.

Responsibilities

• Act as a client-facing linguistic point of contact, representing TransPerfect with professionalism.
• Review and investigate client complaints and quality-related issues, determine root causes, and provide timely, well-documented responses and corrective actions.
• Maintain language quality standards across projects and accounts.
• Manage language assets, including translation memories (TMs), glossaries, and style guides, ensuring they are accurate, consistent, and up to date.
• Work closely with Project Managers to understand project requirements, scope, timelines, and client expectations.
• Gather and relay client feedback, and incorporate it into ongoing and future work.
• Manage and guide a group of linguists, including assigning work, providing feedback, and ensuring adherence to client requirements and quality standards.
• Translate and proofread Life Science documents, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and compliance with client and regulatory terminology.

Requirements

• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in English and Simplified Chinese (China).
• Expertise in one or more of the specified fields.
• Strong attention to detail, including spelling and grammar accuracy.
• Ability to maintain professionalism and deliver high-quality work under tight deadlines.
• Strong client communication skills, with the ability to handle complaints and feedback diplomatically and constructively.
• Ability to manage, mentor, and give clear feedback to other linguists.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to collaborate with Project Managers and cross-functional teams.
• Applicants must meet at least ONE of the following criteria: Hold a degree in Translation, Linguistics, Language Studies, or an equivalent program with significant translation training from a recognized university; Have 2 years of professional translation experience plus a college degree; Have 5 years of professional translation experience without a college degree; OR Possess a translation competence certificate issued by an appropriate government authority.
• Candidates MUST also fulfil any ONE of the following requirements: A Degree in Translation, Linguistics, or Language Studies or an equivalent degree that includes significant translation training, from a recognized institution of higher education; 2 years of translation experience and a college degree; 5 years of translation experience and no college degree; or A certificate of competence in translation awarded by an appropriate government body.
• Applicants will be required to sign a confidentiality agreement.
• Free translation and MTPE assessments will be administered to evaluate skills.
