About the Role
Convoy Finance is seeking a hands-on, strategic Fractional CFO to support early-stage and growth-stage startups in Web3 and emerging technology. This role is ideal for a finance leader who enjoys variety and complex accounting/finops work, building scalable financial systems, and providing actionable insights to founders. You will serve as a trusted finance partner, managing financial reporting, cash flow planning, strategic advisory, and investor communications, with a focus on hands-on execution.
Responsibilities
- Lead and execute financial operations with a strong emphasis on accounting operations.
- Oversee monthly reporting, financial statement reviews, and performance analysis for multiple clients.
- Implement scalable accounting processes to ensure startups are audit- and investor-ready.
- Manage bookkeeping, accounts payable, and invoicing processes.
- Partner with founders to develop budgets, forecasts, and financial models.
- Support fundraising, capital planning, and treasury management.
- Coordinate and review corporate and personal tax filings for client compliance.
- Identify tax-efficient structures and operational improvements for early-stage companies.
- Manage client audit and review processes, including liaison with external auditors.
- Lead or support M&A due diligence, restructuring, and financial system integrations.
- Drive internal process improvements across the Convoy Finance client base.
Requirements
- Degree in Accounting with a completed CPA designation.
- 5–10 years of progressive experience in public accounting, controllership, or finance leadership.
- Experience working with mid-market clients in audit is a significant advantage.
- Experience working with startups or high-growth clients is a significant advantage.
- Experience with controllership work is a significant advantage.
- Experience as COO or Chief of Staff with a Venture-backed VC is a plus.
- Skilled in Excel is mandatory.
- Familiarity with QuickBooks Online, Xero, and crypto-native finance tools is an asset.
- Knowledge of the full accounting process.
- Strong communication skills to simplify complex financial topics for non-finance founders.
- Ability to manage multiple client priorities in a fast-paced consulting environment.
- Comfortable working in a culture of autonomy, collaboration, and accountability.
- High efficiency and ability to think quickly are essential.
- Must possess a 'get it done' attitude and the ability to learn new tools and handle CEO-facing tasks.
