About the Role
The Lawyers’ Professional Indemnity Company (LAWPRO) is seeking two articling students for the 2027-2028 term in Toronto. Students will gain experience in both the Claims Department and the Office of the General Counsel, with assigned mentors for each rotation.
Responsibilities
- Conduct legal research and prepare memoranda on various legal areas, focusing on solicitors' risk management and liability.
- Assist legal counsel with pleadings, research, motions, and trial preparation.
- Prepare arbitration briefs and represent LAWPRO at arbitrations.
- Attend pre-trial conferences, mediations, discoveries, and trials.
- Support LAWPRO executives and in-house counsel with corporate matters including legal, compliance, underwriting, and risk.
- Perform legal research and draft memoranda related to real estate law for TitlePLUS title insurance underwriting.
- Assist in researching and drafting articles and papers for publication and/or external presentation.
- Participate in a comprehensive orientation program.
Requirements
- Candidate for law school graduation in Spring 2027 or a recent law school graduate with excellent grades.
- Strong research, writing, and presentation skills.
- Proficient with MS Office and Westlaw.
- Energetic, detail-oriented, and consistently successful at meeting deadlines.
