About the Role
Operate manual lathes and use basic hand tools to machine and polish parts to meet specifications. This role requires decision-making on machining processes, tool selection, and careful monitoring of equipment during operation. The ability to perform basic machine maintenance is also necessary.
Responsibilities
- Operating manual lathes
- Using basic hand tools
- Checking specifications and readouts for parts
- Making decisions on machining or polishing processes
- Calculating how to shape metal or other materials
- Deciding on necessary tools
- Placing work pieces on equipment
- Setting controls to make cuts
- Monitoring the machine during operation for problems
- Monitoring machine speed and heat
- Performing basic maintenance of the machine
Requirements
- Ability to lift, bend, push, pull and move materials up to 50lbs
- Ability to stand or walk an entire shift (approx. 8-10 hours)
- Ability to use handheld tools such as drills, impacts, hammers, calipers, and micrometers
