About the Role
Thomas Berry Place, Passionist Spiritual Retreat Center, is seeking a Part-Time Housekeeper responsible for cleaning, restocking, and maintaining facility rooms.
Responsibilities
- Prepare rooms for retreats based on the calendar of events and prioritize rooms requesting early cleaning.
- Check inventory of cleaning cart and add necessary supplies.
- Enter rooms after knocking and announcing presence, returning later if occupied.
- Remove soiled linens, towels, bedspreads, and blankets, and provide fresh replacements.
- Neatly make beds and stock towels, washcloths, and hand towels according to policies.
- Clean and disinfect bathrooms and kitchenette or coffee-preparation areas according to retreat center policies.
- Wipe surfaces and clean mirrors in rooms.
- Vacuum floors and remove trash.
- Ensure rooms meet retreat center standards through a final walkaround.
- Notify the maintenance department of needed maintenance or repairs.
- Take found items to the designated lost and found area if a guest has checked out.
- Greet guests warmly and friendly.
- Assist guests with inquiries, directions, and information about the facility and programs.
- Handle guest complaints and issues promptly, efficiently, and courteously, escalating to the Program Manager when necessary.
- Collect, bag, and transport dirty linen to the lobby for pickup by the linen service vendor.
- Set up linen and cleaning carts.
- Clean unoccupied rooms, including making beds, wiping surfaces, emptying trash, vacuuming, cleaning bathrooms, and stocking supplies.
- Vacuum hallways, dust baseboards, tables, and lamps, and place complimentary tissues in rooms.
- Order linen from the laundry service vendor.
- Order cleaning supplies and toiletries.
- Sweep and mop stairwells.
- Clean, mop, and stock main bathrooms.
- Clean meeting rooms by dusting, vacuuming, wiping surfaces, and taking out trash.
- Dust, dry, and wet mop breezeway floors, clean windowsills, and water plants.
- Dust, dry, and wet mop floors, vacuum carpets, wipe down pews, altar, organ, and glass tables/doors, and assist with altar clothes and holy water.
- Dust and wipe down furniture, clean glass tables and windowsills, and vacuum the garden room.
- Clean, dust, vacuum, and straighten furniture in the library.
- Clean the elevator and shampoo rugs.
- Dust, mop, vacuum, clean glass doors, and empty trash in the lobby area.
Requirements
- Previous experience working in a similar capacity preferred.
- Sufficient education and literacy required to identify and read product labels and communicate with guests about job-related needs.
- Ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in basic English preferred.
- Prolonged periods standing and walking and frequently pulling, pushing, and bending.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
- Willingness to work a rotation seven-day work cycle with occasional afternoon shifts.
