About the Role
Underwrite a broad range of moderate and complex risks, applying strong technical judgment, disciplined pricing, and creative solutions to deliver profitable outcomes and excellent service for brokers and policyholders within the Lloyds Marine team.
Responsibilities
- Review applications and financial information for moderate and complex risks, determining acceptability in line with underwriting guidelines, standards, and delegated authority.
- Set appropriate pricing through financial and competitive analysis, prepare quotations, and negotiate with brokers to achieve positive and profitable outcomes.
- Build and maintain strong relationships across the brokerage community, market CNA Hardy products and services, and communicate underwriting decisions clearly and professionally.
- Analyse the quality and quantity of risks underwritten, prepare reports for management review, and escalate risks requiring special handling or authority.
- Apply relevant legal, regulatory, and compliance requirements, stay current with market and industry developments, and provide guidance to colleagues where appropriate.
Requirements
- Strong knowledge of underwriting principles and insurance industry practices.
- Knowledge of the Lloyds Marine Cargo market, products, and networks.
- Proven ability to exercise independent judgment, make critical business decisions, and work confidently within agreed authority levels.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to assess complex information, identify solutions, and manage multiple priorities effectively.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills, with the confidence to work effectively with internal and external business partners at all levels.
