About the Role
As a Night Security Officer, you'll rotate between general security and loading bay responsibilities, helping maintain effective site security throughout the night. You'll be expected to follow site procedures, communicate effectively with colleagues and visitors, and respond appropriately to security, vehicle movement and emergency situations.
Responsibilities
- Maintain a visible security presence by carrying out regular internal and external patrols, controlling access and egress, checking entry passes, deterring unauthorised activity and protecting the premises, property and personnel.
- Monitor security systems including CCTV, fire and intruder alarm panels, escalating incidents, faults and suspicious activity to the Controller and supporting emergency responses as required.
- Manage loading bay operations, including monitoring vehicle movements, booking vehicles in and out, assisting delivery drivers, couriers and staff, and coordinating with other service partners.
- Maintain safe vehicle and pedestrian movements by directing traffic when required, keeping pedestrians on designated footpaths and ensuring vehicles do not obstruct access or park in unauthorised areas.
- Provide professional customer service by welcoming and assisting staff, visitors and contractors, supporting reception duties, managing visitor sign-in procedures and issuing passes in line with site instructions.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation, including security logs, vehicle records, key registers, visitor information, incident reports and shift handovers.
- Support Health & Safety and emergency procedures by keeping escape routes clear, identifying hazards, reporting unsafe practices, responding to fire and other emergencies, and providing first aid within the scope of your training.
- Maintain site standards and equipment, ensuring security equipment is handled correctly, common areas remain clean and welcoming, and any faults, damage or potential risks are reported promptly.
Requirements
- A valid SIA Licence, First Aid qualification and Fire Marshal qualification.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills, with the confidence to deal professionally and courteously with staff, visitors, contractors, delivery drivers and colleagues.
- Good IT skills, including familiarity with Windows-based software such as SharePoint, Outlook, Word and Excel, alongside the ability to maintain accurate records and reports.
- Strong observation and attention to detail, with the ability to monitor security systems, operate radio equipment, follow access control procedures and identify potential risks.
- The ability to manage competing priorities, work effectively as part of a team and use your initiative when responding to incidents or unexpected situations.
- An understanding of loading bay operations, including vehicle monitoring, access control, safe vehicle movements and the importance of personal protective equipment.
- A reliable and professional approach, with high standards of personal presentation, punctuality, attendance and compliance with site procedures.
- A commitment to Health & Safety, equality and diversity, and maintaining a safe and welcoming environment for everyone on site.
