About the Role

The Housing & Development Board (HDB) is seeking a Lead Product Designer to lead design for a product area, manage a team of product designers, and collaborate with product and engineering leads to deliver impactful outcomes for residents and staff. This role is ideal for individuals skilled in solving complex user problems, planning design initiatives, and effectively engaging stakeholders.

Responsibilities

Lead design for a product area end-to-end, from discovery and research through interaction design, delivery, and post-launch iteration.
Set the quality bar for the design team, conduct design critiques, and ensure design intent is maintained in the final product.
Apply and contribute to the central design system to ensure consistent experiences and adherence to Whole-of-Government Digital Service Standards, including accessibility.
Own the design plan for the product area, including scoping, sequencing work with product and engineering milestones, estimating effort, allocating designers, identifying risks, and tracking progress.
Ensure design work commences ahead of build and meets agreed readiness and completion criteria.
Act as the design representative for the product area, engaging with business owners, product managers, engineering leads, and senior management.
Build early alignment, present recommendations with clear rationale, and articulate design decisions in terms of user outcomes, risk, effort, and trade-offs.
Facilitate workshops, resolve competing priorities, and secure buy-in for the design direction.
Present regularly to stakeholders at all levels.
Line-manage a team of product designers, including setting goals, conducting performance reviews, developing career plans, coaching on craft and influence, and participating in hiring.
Foster the growth of designers, enabling them to be confident in their work and contributions.

Requirements

6+ years of experience in product design, UX design, service design, or a related discipline.
2+ years of experience leading or managing designers.
A portfolio showcasing shipped work, the design process, and influence on product decisions.
Experience leading design on complex, multi-stakeholder products, preferably in government, enterprise, or regulated environments.
A proven track record of planning and executing design work across a product area, including scoping, estimation, sequencing, and tracking.
Strong stakeholder management skills, including building alignment, clear presentation, and defending design decisions with evidence.
Competence in using AI tools for design tasks such as research synthesis, content drafting, exploration, and prototyping.
Strong understanding of design systems, accessibility, and interaction design.
Experience managing and developing design teams.
Proficiency with design tools like Figma.
