About the Role
The Housing & Development Board (HDB) is developing digital products and services to enhance the lives of Singaporeans. We are seeking a Senior Design Technologist to advance our design system and associated AI tools, enabling designers and engineers to create consistent, accessible products more efficiently and ensuring AI tools adhere to the system.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain design system components, patterns, and tokens, including variants, theming, and documentation.
- Integrate accessibility into every component to meet Whole-of-Government Digital Service Standards, including WCAG AA.
- Collaborate with front-end engineers to ensure design and code alignment using tools like Code Connect and Storybook.
- Develop AI tools such as Figma plugins, custom agents, skills, and prompt templates to expedite designer workflows and maintain system consistency.
- Structure the design system for AI tool compatibility through machine-readable documentation, tokens, and exposed component data.
- Write scripts to automate design system tasks like audits, token synchronization, and documentation.
- Test and evaluate new AI tools, sharing findings with the design team.
- Support product designers and engineers using the system through reviews and guidance.
- Audit products for unique patterns and deviations, determining system integration with the team.
- Implement a contribution model for teams to propose and add components.
- Track system adoption and report on its effectiveness and limitations.
Requirements
- A portfolio demonstrating design system work, including components, tokens, documentation, and impact on user teams.
- Strong understanding of component architecture, design tokens, variants, and theming within Figma.
- Proficiency in accessibility standards, including WCAG AA, and their implementation in components.
- Experience building AI tools for design, such as Figma plugins, custom agents, skills, or prompt templates.
- Experience making design system content AI-tool-friendly via structured documentation or MCP servers.
- Ability to write scripts using the Figma API, JavaScript, or similar for design task automation.
- Comfortable collaborating with engineers on GitHub.
- Clear and concise writing skills for documentation and guidelines.
