About the Role

This position serves as a Teacher’s Aide/Substitute for Early Childhood classrooms, assisting with supervision, implementing activities, supporting staff, and maintaining classroom safety and health.

Responsibilities

Supervise children's indoor and outdoor activities using positive guidance techniques.
Assist in implementing a child-centered curriculum and learning environment.
Collaborate with the classroom team in preparing daily lesson plans and individualizations.
Collect daily anecdotes and write observations for children.
Assess children using Teaching Strategies Gold online three times a year.
Provide positive guidance and discipline to support children's readiness skills.
Create and maintain positive working relationships with parents.
Encourage parent participation in conferences and home visits.
Maintain regular contact with parents and complete appropriate documentation.
Direct developmental concerns to the Lead Teacher.
Participate in multi-disciplinary team meetings.
Complete attendance, health checks, home correspondence, home visit forms, accident/incident reports, referrals, and safety inspections.
Request supplies as needed and participate in classroom/program inventory.
Analyze child outcomes with the teaching team two to three times a year.
Participate in coaching opportunities and professional development training.
Substitute for Assistant Teachers and other staff members as needed.
Lift 35 pounds.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

High School Diploma or equivalence.
Ability to work with children and families with special developmental, social, or cultural needs.
Ability to maintain written records and manage time effectively.
Ability to interpret documents such as safety regulations, policies, and procedures.
Ability to foster and maintain positive, professional relationships with participating families.
Clearance through DOI Fingerprint Screening, NYS Central Registry, and Sex Offender Registry.
Three reference checks.
Physical examination with updated TB test, varicella, tdap, MMR.
Obtain Mandated Reporter training certificate (every 2 years) and comply with agency policy.
Obtain First Aid/CPR and Preventive Infectious Diseases certificate within the first year of employment.
Meet all employee health requirements in Article 47 (DOHMH) and Head Start Performance Standards.
Ability to lift 35 pounds.
