About the Role
We are seeking a Junior Database Administrator to assist our senior DBA. This role involves writing and optimizing SQL queries, monitoring database performance, and managing daily database operations including backups, restores, and access control. It's an ideal position for individuals with solid SQL skills looking to expand their database knowledge through practical experience, with mentorship provided.
Responsibilities
- Write, review, and optimize SQL queries and stored procedures for performance and scalability
- Monitor database performance and troubleshoot slow queries and other issues
- Design and maintain database schemas and indexes
- Support backups, restores, security, and access management
- Implement best practices for data integrity and reliability
- Provide day-to-day database coverage when our senior DBA is away
- Work closely with developers on how our applications use the database
- Contribute to technical discussions and decisions with the team
- Document database structures, processes, and changes clearly
Requirements
- 2 - 5 years of hands-on database experience (strong recent graduates with relevant experience will be considered)
- Strong SQL knowledge, including complex queries, indexing, and query optimization
- Experience with MySQL
- Understanding of DBA fundamentals, including backups, recovery, security, and performance monitoring
- Experience with relational database design principles
- Ability to communicate technical problems and solutions clearly
