About the Role
The Data Scientist will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, business stakeholders, and external partners to apply advanced analytics, statistical methods, and machine learning techniques to address complex business challenges. This role supports data-driven decision-making by translating business needs into analytical solutions, developing and evaluating models, and operationalizing them within existing platforms. These efforts will enhance STB's analytical capabilities, deepen visitor understanding, and contribute to Singapore's tourism industry growth.
Responsibilities
- Translate complex business problems into well-defined data science objectives and determine appropriate statistical and machine learning approaches.
- Design, develop, and implement statistical and machine learning models using advanced data science techniques.
- Develop and apply robust model validation and evaluation methods to assess model performance, accuracy, reliability, and limitations.
- Perform data exploration, preprocessing, and feature engineering to prepare complex datasets for model development.
- Collaborate with data engineers and technical teams to integrate and deploy models into production environments.
- Monitor and evaluate model performance over time, identifying degradation and recommending enhancements.
- Develop and maintain documentation for model methodologies, assumptions, validation results, and operational requirements.
- Manage and own data science projects, ensuring deliverables meet objectives, scope, quality, and timelines.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support the development, integration, and operationalization of data science solutions.
- Collaborate with teams to review and enhance data collection methods to support data science requirements.
- Evaluate new data sources for quality and suitability to enhance data science capabilities.
- Identify, source, and assemble complex datasets that meet project requirements.
- Provide inputs to the design and development of integrated data models for structured and unstructured datasets.
Requirements
- At least 3–5 years of relevant experience in developing, evaluating, and implementing statistical and machine learning models.
- Demonstrated ability to independently manage data science projects, engage stakeholders, and deliver quality outcomes.
- Strong project management skills, including planning, managing timelines, juggling priorities, and delivering under pressure.
- Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong quantitative and statistical modelling skills with practical experience.
- Experience working with structured and unstructured datasets, including data preparation and preprocessing.
- Proficiency in Python for statistical modelling and machine learning.
- Proficiency in SQL for data extraction, manipulation, and querying.
- Good command of written and spoken English.
