About the Role
Loop's systems team is responsible for the underlying infrastructure. As the platform's volume grows beyond its current architectural capacity, this role will focus on closing that gap. You will engage directly with the code while concentrating on scalability and performance, dedicating your efforts to system design, database and runtime performance optimization, and enhancing observability. A key aspect of this position involves understanding product features without necessarily building them, and collaborating with other engineering teams to improve their systems' performance. You will tackle complex technical challenges with significant production impact, leverage deep expertise in a core area, and possess the judgment to prioritize optimization efforts. This role will significantly influence Loop's engineering culture and growth trajectory.
Responsibilities
- Set architectural direction for scalability and collaborate with product engineering teams to achieve it.
- Review designs with a focus on scalability and elevate the engineering standard.
- Own observability for high-load systems and enhance performance monitoring to proactively identify bottlenecks.
- Identify and resolve platform bottlenecks, addressing complex performance issues and production incidents with durable solutions.
- Anticipate future scaling limits and proactively plan for architectural changes and large-scale infrastructure migrations.
Requirements
- Work in the SF office 4+ days a week.
- Possess three or more years of software engineering experience, with significant backend, platform, or infrastructure systems experience in production.
- Demonstrate a track record of performance and scaling work on production systems, including experience with significant load growth and problem resolution.
- Exhibit deep expertise in at least one of PostgreSQL, Node.js performance, or cloud infrastructure (e.g., AWS), with working familiarity in the others.
- Possess strong written communication skills and the ability to influence architectural decisions across teams.
- Experience leading large-scale architecture migrations or working with high-throughput data/workflow systems is a plus.
