About the Role
Level is seeking a Learning Designer to lead the pedagogy for our Life Skills curriculum. You will define skills, teaching methods, and module effectiveness, collaborating with designers to create engaging learning experiences. This role involves upholding learning rigor across various life skills domains from concept to pilot, staying current with learning science, and driving scale.
Responsibilities
- Deeply understand each skill in our curriculum and translate that understanding into clear direction for designers.
- Concept learning experiences with designers, shaping games and narratives that teach effectively and are engaging for children.
- Break down skills into components and techniques, using AI for initial drafts and refining with experts and pedagogical judgment.
- Consult on learning concepts as they become mechanics and scripts, iterating with designers and holding pedagogical judgment.
- Serve as editorial review across pods, enforcing a high standard of learning and providing actionable feedback.
- Build fluency in the curriculum framework and actively learn new domains and subcategories.
- Track learning goals across pods, from concept through pilot, assessing module effectiveness and curriculum gaps.
- Translate efficacy findings into changes, ensuring modules receive necessary validation and implementing improvements.
- Extend curriculum craft and judgment to new projects, formats, and experiments.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in instructional design, learning design, or curriculum development.
- Background in learning science, child development, or comparable grounding, with an interest in research.
- Passion for learning new domains deeply and quickly, and applying that understanding.
- Strong product and creative sense, with the ability to articulate what makes an experience effective.
- Comfort making decisions with incomplete information and surfacing own errors early.
- Ability to uphold a quality bar and provide specific, supportive editorial feedback.
- Strong project management skills with the ability to oversee multiple modules simultaneously.
- Strong cross-functional communication skills, translating learning goals into design briefs and design constraints into pedagogical decisions.
- Comfort using frontier AI models and understanding their limitations.
- Background in social emotional learning or life skills specifically (Nice to Have).
- K-12 classroom teaching experience (Nice to Have).
- Experience in games, animation, or interactive media production (Nice to Have).
- Experience in directly incorporating research findings into product or content decisions (Nice to Have).
- A portfolio or work samples demonstrating instructional design, curriculum, or interactive learning content (if available, please include a link with your application).
