About the Role
Homebase is seeking a Manager, Data Science to lead a team transforming how data powers product, platform, and people. This role involves shaping the future of applied AI at scale, leading initiatives from intelligent scheduling and hiring models to supporting internal sales and marketing decisions. The ideal candidate will manage a growing team of data scientists and collaborate with platform engineering to deploy models from concept to production. This position is perfect for individuals passionate about data science, AI, team leadership, and high-ownership environments.
Responsibilities
- Lead and grow a team of high-performing data scientists, mentoring them to think like product and business owners.
- Support end-to-end delivery of models powering product features (e.g., scheduling, hiring, payroll, pricing, personalization) and internal systems (e.g., sales/marketing targeting).
- Champion experimentation by designing A/B and multivariate tests to accelerate decision-making.
- Collaborate with Engineering, Product, and Design to integrate data and AI into user experiences.
- Serve as a thought partner to cross-functional leaders, product managers, and executive stakeholders.
Requirements
- 6+ years of experience in data science, applied machine learning, or AI product development.
- 2+ years in a people leadership role, mentoring and growing data scientists.
- Strong background in machine learning (optimization, traditional ML, or frontier models).
- Proven track record of shipping ML models into production.
- Proficient in SQL and Python.
- Strong people leader with a focus on growth, empathy, and impact.
- Strong ability to partner cross-functionally with business and product teams.
- Commitment to driving outcomes in a hybrid, AI-first environment where speed and ownership matter.
- Exhibits curiosity, empathy, and a growth mindset in problem-solving and leadership.
