About the Role

You'll build and own the models that decide which carrier each auto insurance shopper sees on our click wall, aiming to send every user to the carrier most likely to convert them. You will also own the buying models behind our media spend, which are held to ROAS. This is a hands-on individual contributor role where you frame problems, find data, build and validate models, and manage them through deployment and monitoring.

Responsibilities

Own the buying models behind our media spend, held to ROAS.
Put carrier conversion data (quotes, policies, acquisition cost) to work in production.
Frame problems directly with the business.
Find your own data.
Build and validate models.
Manage models through deployment and monitoring.
Work alongside an ML engineer on the production side.
Focus initially on auto insurance, with scope broadening to other verticals over time.

Requirements

5+ years of hands-on applied data science with measurable business impact.
Models drove paid media decisions (spend, bidding, or ad serving).
Ability to explain models down to the loss function and architecture choice, including neural network fundamentals.
Understanding of how today's bids shape tomorrow's training data.
Experience handling late labels, sparse features, or drift.
Experience owning models end-to-end: data sourcing, building, deployment, monitoring, and bringing a point of view.
Expert Python and SQL.
Real ad budget spent in live auctions.
Experience with large-scale ranking or recommendation systems.
Ability to explain tradeoffs to non-technical partners in plain terms.
Experience designing for auction feedback loops, selection bias, and exploration.
Hands-on neural network work (e.g., embeddings of text, creative, or user behavior).
Experience with AWS for data science (ECS, S3, Athena, SageMaker).
Experience with CI/CD deployment.
