About the Role

BCG is seeking a Senior Director level Enterprise Architect to lead the modernization of our integration and GenAI architecture. This role will provide governed, contract-based access to systems and data for BCGers, clients, and AI agents, ensuring 24/7 availability. The core focus is defining the architecture for the integration layer, including contracts, gateways, access models, and the GenAI platform. The ideal candidate will be an expert in API and event-driven integration patterns, agent-to-tool protocols, and enterprise GenAI governance, with extensive experience designing secure, scaled, and governed global platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Define the architecture of the integration layer, including contracts, gateways, and access models.
  • Define the architecture of the GenAI platform.
  • Bring teams together to define a shared, contract-first integration architecture.
  • Establish guardrails for AI agent operation within the integration architecture.
  • Drive a modern, enterprise-grade approach to API and agent governance.
  • Play a leading role in the transformation of BCG IT.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience leading and owning the enterprise architecture of integration and/or AI platforms at a global scale.
  • Experience managing the value, opportunities, inventory, roadmaps, rationalization, and total cost of ownership for integration and GenAI platforms.
  • Proven experience in autonomously planning a global integration and GenAI estate across requirements, technology, cost, value, and rationalization.
  • Experience leading and agreeing investment decisions at both portfolio and individual technology levels.
  • Experience leading the development of architectures across API and event-driven integration (e.g., API gateways, service contracts, event streaming).
  • Experience leading the development of architectures for enterprise GenAI (e.g., foundation model gateways, agent-to-tool protocols such as MCP and A2A, agent identity and guardrails).
  • Deep, hands-on experience with at least one API/integration gateway platform (e.g., Kong, Apigee, MuleSoft).
  • Direct experience architecting enterprise use of foundation models (e.g., OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Mistral).
  • Experience leading decisions to conclusion in a highly matrixed organization with minimal or no supervision.
  • Experience preparing materials for, and presenting at, senior levels including C-Suite.
  • Ability to energize people to set a vision and see the possibilities of a contract-first integration layer and a governed GenAI platform.
  • Ability to find great answers to complex and ambiguous questions.
  • Ability to connect and collaborate across teams to develop architectures, especially to meet demanding non-functional requirements around security, governance, and scale.
  • Ability to seek diverse views and consider both conventional and unconventional answers with a growth mindset.
  • Ability to roll up sleeves and pioneer the way forward, bringing others along.
  • Ability to produce high-quality Enterprise Architecture arguments and supporting materials.
  • Ability to agree architecture at different levels in the organization.
  • Ability to influence and collaborate with others, especially solution architects and technical leaders.
  • Passion for developing others through mentoring, coaching, and sharing knowledge.
  • Enthusiasm for technology, knowledge and conversance with modern integration and AI paradigms.
  • Curiosity and drive to learn more and apply new knowledge to work.
  • Expertise in API and event-driven architecture, agent and tool-calling protocols, foundation model gateways, and the guardrails and evaluation gates needed to run GenAI safely at enterprise scale.
  • Understanding of how to optimize one's own role and deliver results.
  • Understanding of architecture as part of a value stream, contributing to efficiency, velocity, and risk reduction.
