About the Role
IPRally is seeking engineers to join its Product Engineering team, focusing on building AI-powered tools for patent and technical knowledge understanding. This role emphasizes engineering judgment, systems thinking, and the effective use of AI agents in software development.
Responsibilities
- Maintain a holistic view of product, data, and agent interactions.
- Make technical decisions that enable rapid product team progress without compromising system integrity.
- Design architectures for both human and AI agents, establishing boundaries, abstractions, and guardrails for safe system-wide development.
- Review AI agent and engineer outputs with a focus on the entire system, considering failure modes, security, performance, and cost.
- Document critical technical decisions to facilitate understanding and collaboration for both engineers and AI agents.
Requirements
- Possess a strong software engineering background with experience in designing, building, and operating production systems.
- Exhibit a systems-oriented mindset, considering data flow, dependencies, failure modes, security, performance, and cost.
- Demonstrate the ability to make architectural decisions that balance current needs with future scalability, avoiding overengineering.
- Clearly articulate complex systems and technical decisions to enable comprehension and adoption by other engineers.
- Actively use AI coding agents in daily work, understanding their capabilities and limitations.
- Show interest in developing systems and practices that safely integrate AI agents for implementation tasks, moving beyond basic AI assistance.
- Comfortably assume ownership of problems that span multiple features or components.
- Experience with search, ML systems, or large datasets is advantageous but not mandatory.
- Willingness to learn new technologies and adapt to evolving AI capabilities in software development.
