About the Role

We are seeking a Data Scientist to join our interdisciplinary team, focusing on impactful Data Science projects within the pharmaceutical industry. You will identify customer needs, develop data-driven solutions, and create innovative approaches using modern methods in statistics, machine learning, and optimization.

Responsibilities

Design ambitious Data Science projects in an interdisciplinary team.
Identify customer needs and develop effective, data-driven solutions and process optimizations for the pharmaceutical industry.
Extract crucial data from customer datasets for task-specific analysis.
Create innovative solutions using modern methods in statistics, machine learning, mathematical optimization, and visual analytics.
Evaluate the use of Generative AI and Large Language Models in R&D processes, such as analyzing scientific literature or designing new molecules.
Collaborate with clients to identify Use Cases along the R&D value chain and assess their feasibility and added value.
Analyze and integrate heterogeneous life science data (e.g., Omics, assay, screening, clinical data) and make them usable for analysis.
Communicate results effectively to clients and support the implementation of ideas with the Data Engineering team.
Participate in client meetings as an expert.

Requirements

Excellent academic record (M.Sc. or PhD) in a relevant scientific, pharmaceutical, bioinformatics, or data science field (e.g., Data Science with Life Science application, Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Computational Biology).
Good knowledge in Data Science, Machine Learning, Big Data, data and time series analysis, anomaly detection, Bayesian optimization, process optimization, simulation, or modeling of physical systems.
Several years of professional experience in the pharmaceutical industry, preferably in an R&D environment (e.g., Drug Discovery, Preclinical R&D, Translational Research, Pharmacology, Medical Chemistry, Clinical Development).
In-depth understanding of the drug discovery and R&D value chain, including Target Identification/Validation, Hit Identification/to-Lead, Lead Optimization, Drug Candidate evaluation/prioritization, preclinical development, and Clinical Feasibility.
Ability to discuss complex scientific and technological challenges with clients from Pharma and Biotech and translate them into concrete Data Science & AI solutions.
Strong expertise in common analytics toolboxes, particularly Python (and relevant libraries), databases, Big Data technologies, and Linux, Cloud, or container environments.
Experience in consulting, project work, or collaboration with interdisciplinary teams from R&D, Data Science, IT, and Business.
Strong communication and presentation skills in German and English.
Enjoy project-based work, be customer-oriented, and have a strong interest in industrial processes and R&D-related questions.
Willingness to travel for consulting activities.
