About the Role
This is the senior design seat in our London studio, responsible for high-end brand execution across print and digital for beauty and cosmetics clients. You will set the standard for the studio, provide honest feedback, and help less experienced designers grow, while also contributing to bringing the two studios closer together.
Responsibilities
- Act as the senior hands-on designer in London, working across brand and campaign work, print and retail, digital, social and e-commerce, long-form documents and presentations.
- Analyze briefs, ask pertinent questions, and utilize skills to create simple, beautiful solutions.
- Produce finished artwork to production standards, including specifications, pre-press, formats, color, print methods, and retail specs.
- Work within established brand systems, discerning creative stretch from brand character breaches.
- Brief and art direct specialists (motion, 3D, video) when necessary.
- Build master files and templates for others to use, ensuring they are structured, named, consistent, and documented.
- Design for adaptation from the outset, considering text expansion, alternative formats, market variations, and legal copy.
- Utilize creative automation and AI-assisted production to accelerate or enhance processes.
- Provide feedback on studio tools and processes based on production experience.
- Mentor less experienced designers by reviewing work, explaining reasoning, and providing constructive critique.
- Critique work leaving the London studio, ensuring it meets high standards.
- Set the tone for work presentation and discussion: early, open, and without defensiveness.
- Design through others when appropriate, setting direction and maintaining quality.
- Identify designers ready for more responsibility and flag skill gaps.
- Take briefs directly from clients and ask questions to ensure clarity.
- Present work and explain creative decisions to clients in understandable terms.
- Advocate for the work and brand, knowing when to concede on requests.
- Act as a confident and credible creative voice.
- Collaborate with producers, project managers, and directors, flagging risks early.
- Act as the London representative for a single shared standard, liaising with the Lead Designer and senior designers in Newcastle.
- Share work across sites routinely for review.
- Assist new starters in London in connecting with the Newcastle team.
