About the Role

Squla combines technology, gaming, and child psychology to design digital learning experiences that expand children's worlds. As a Product Designer, you will research the needs of children, parents, and teachers, explore and test new concepts, and collaborate with the team to bring ideas to life. Your primary strengths will be in research, exploration, and testing, complemented by your design skills to realize these concepts.

Responsibilities

  • Researching the needs of children, parents, and teachers.
  • Exploring and testing new concepts.
  • Collaborating with the team to develop ideas.
  • Conducting user research, including speaking with children, parents, and teachers, visiting schools, and combining observations with behavioral and usage data.
  • Translating insights into opportunities and ideas.
  • Explicitly stating assumptions and choosing appropriate experiments and prototypes to investigate concept understandability, appeal, and value.
  • Developing promising ideas into journeys, flows, interactions, and visual designs, with attention to usability, accessibility, and consistency.
  • Collaborating with Engineering to translate designs into working product experiences.
  • Potentially 'vibecoding' to make changes to product code, with review by Engineering.
  • Using feedback, tests, and usage data to assess design effectiveness and identify areas for improvement.
  • Collaborating with colleagues from Product, Engineering, Education, Data, Marketing, and Design.
  • Participating in the design guild within Futurewhiz for discussions, knowledge sharing, and growth.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience as a Product Designer, UX Designer, or UX/UI Designer.
  • Experience designing and delivering digital products in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Ability to conduct independent research: formulate research questions, choose appropriate research methods, execute, and translate findings into design choices.
  • Understanding the difference between what users say, what they do, and what can be concluded from it.
  • Exploring multiple ideas before choosing a direction and using prototypes for rapid learning.
  • Clear explanation of choices, openness to feedback, and responsibility for work quality.
  • Ability to 'vibecode' and use AI design tools to create concepts, working prototypes, and product adjustments, critically evaluating outcomes and ensuring quality and feasibility with Engineering.
  • Good command of Dutch and English, both spoken and written.
  • Ability to conduct research with Dutch-speaking children, parents, and teachers and clearly share insights with English-speaking colleagues.
  • Portfolio showcasing the journey from research to insight, concept, and validation, including choices made and lessons learned.
  • Experience with research on children, EdTech, digital consumer products, or game-based learning is a plus.
  • Must have a valid work permit for the Netherlands/EU.
