About the Role
This role involves bringing partner labs and their experimental workflows onto the CuspAI platform, translating lab needs into requirements for engineers and ML researchers, and spending time with partners' experimental data.
Responsibilities
- Shape and prioritize the roadmap for experimental data, protocols, and campaigns.
- Write requirements, specifications, and acceptance criteria for engineers.
- Contribute to decisions on product development and integration.
- Lead technical discovery with partner labs, mapping workflows, instruments, and data systems.
- Own the onboarding process for partner labs from scoping to campaign completion.
- Act as the main scientific counterpart for partner labs.
- Represent the product in partner meetings, workshops, and conferences.
- Work with ML researchers to design optimization campaigns respecting experimental constraints.
- Define how platform-driven campaigns are validated, including benchmarks and success metrics.
Requirements
- PhD in Materials Science, Chemistry, Physics, Chemical Engineering, or a related experimental discipline, or equivalent experience in scientific research.
- Hands-on experience with high-throughput or automated experimentation in industry, a national lab, research institute, or academia.
- Proven track record of translating scientific or process needs into requirements for engineers, software teams, or automation vendors.
- Firsthand understanding of experimental data production, metadata, provenance, instrument quirks, data quality issues, and dataset usability for machine learning.
- Depth in at least one materials domain and the curiosity to work across others.
- Working knowledge of Python for data handling and analysis.
- Comfortable working with APIs and data schemas.
- Strong communicator and proven collaborator, comfortable working with external partners and multidisciplinary teams.
