About the Role
As a Preschool Cook & Floater Teacher, you will be responsible for preparing nutritious meals and snacks for children while also providing flexible classroom support. This role is crucial in maintaining a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate environment for children, supporting daily operations, and upholding the center's curriculum and licensing requirements.
Responsibilities
- Plan, prepare, and cook healthy meals and snacks for children, meeting nutritional requirements.
- Manage and track child food allergies, communicating them to teachers.
- Adhere to food safety, handling, storage, and sanitation procedures.
- Collaborate on food and supply purchasing and maintain inventory records.
- Ensure the kitchen is clean, organized, and inspection-ready.
- Provide classroom coverage during breaks, absences, and peak times.
- Maintain required staff-to-child ratios.
- Assist lead and assistant teachers with daily classroom activities.
- Supervise children to ensure their safety and well-being.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and welcoming classroom environment.
- Collaborate with staff to support a positive learning environment and center culture.
- Provide excellent customer service to parents and children.
- Communicate concerns about children, operations, or safety to leadership promptly.
- Be flexible and adaptable to daily center needs, moving between kitchen and classrooms.
- Participate in required staff meetings, professional development, and training.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- 1+ year of experience in food preparation and cooking.
- Food handler certificate or ability to obtain one within 90 days of hire.
- CPR/First Aid certification.
- Familiarity with Texas Minimum Standards.
- Strong understanding of child development and age-appropriate practices.
- Ability to pass background checks.
- Ability to lift at least 40 pounds.
- Ability to walk up and down stairs.
- Ability to stand for extended periods while preparing and serving meals.
- Ability to sit on the floor for extended periods.
- Ability to sit, stand, bend, and interact with children at their level for extended periods.
- Ability to perform cleaning and physical activity related to kitchen and classroom upkeep.
