About the Role
Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory is seeking a Prep Cook to prepare food as directed by the chef and cook staff, make sandwiches and salads, and maintain sanitary procedures in the kitchen and food storage areas. This is a seasonal, fixed-term position.
Responsibilities
- Prepare hot & cold food as directed by chef(s)
- Make sandwiches and salads as directed by chef(s)
- Follow proper sanitation procedures
- Provide support to the chef(s)
- Provide project information as needed
Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent
- One-year cooking experience in restaurant, catering, or hotel preferred
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- Constant standing, walking, bending, reaching, lifting, and turning
- Receiving of information through oral communication and a computer
- Exposure to heat and noise
Skills
- Knife Skills
- Basic equipment operation & safe handling practices
- Cold food preparation and serving
- Proper sanitation procedures
- Maintain high standards of personal appearance and grooming
- Knowledge of a point-of-sale system preferred
- Nassau County Department of Health sanitation certificate preferred
- Ability to understand the Spanish language is helpful
