About the Role

Pocket is seeking a leader to own the consumer subscription business across hardware, mobile, and desktop apps. The primary goal is to grow subscription revenue by enhancing conversion, monetization, and retention. This senior, hands-on role involves setting subscription and monetization strategy, defining metrics, running experimentation, and collaborating with engineering and design. Initially, you will execute experiments directly, with the future potential to build and lead a dedicated team. You will report directly to the founders and work closely with the Head of Growth & Marketing and the CTO.

Responsibilities

  • Own Pocket's subscription P&L and revenue targets.
  • Drive conversion through optimizing onboarding, paywalls, trials, checkout, and Free to Paid transitions across all platforms.
  • Manage monetization strategies including pricing, packaging, plan structures, credits, and new paid features.
  • Improve retention by focusing on activation, engagement, churn reduction, cancellation flows, and win-back initiatives.
  • Minimize involuntary churn through effective dunning, billing recovery, and renewal processes.
  • Oversee the subscription lifecycle communication strategy, including push notifications, email, and in-app messaging.
  • Lead a continuous experimentation program (A/B testing) across the entire subscription funnel.
  • Analyze key subscription metrics such as cohort retention, LTV, attach rate, and revenue per user.
  • Collaborate directly with engineering and design teams to rapidly implement subscription improvements.
  • Partner with the Head of Growth & Marketing to increase Shopify subscription attach rates.
  • Build and lead the subscriptions and monetization team as the company scales.

Requirements

  • 7+ years in consumer subscription, growth, or monetization roles.
  • 3+ years of direct ownership of subscription revenue or a subscription P&L.
  • Proven track record of growing subscription revenue at scale in consumer apps, with quantified results.
  • Experience in consumer subscription apps, ideally with hardware + subscription models or strong standalone subscription apps.
  • Deep expertise in pricing and packaging strategies.
  • Strong experimentation skills, including test design, sample sizing, and results interpretation.
  • Hands-on experience with subscription tools (e.g., RevenueCat, Superwall), product analytics (e.g., Amplitude, Mixpanel), and lifecycle marketing tools (e.g., Braze, Customer.io).
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to independently analyze data and build business cases.
  • Excellent product and commercial judgment, optimizing for long-term revenue.
  • Willingness to be hands-on initially and build a team over time.
  • Clear communication and influencing skills.
  • High ownership, low ego, intellectual honesty, and ability to execute independently.
  • Shopify/e-commerce CRO experience is a strong plus.
  • Experience building a subscription or monetization function from an early stage is a strong plus.
