About the Role
Profound is seeking an Engineering Manager in New York City to lead a team focused on building triggers for agent work, reliable automation, workflow execution, and collaborative tools. You will report to the Head of Engineering and manage a team of 8-12 engineers, with a primary focus on people management, coaching, hiring, performance, and delivery. Strong production Rust proficiency is required to effectively coach engineers and partner with the technical lead.
Responsibilities
- Hire and develop a strong team of engineers, setting clear expectations and fostering a culture of ownership.
- Own team planning and delivery in partnership with product and the technical lead.
- Coach engineers through one-on-ones, career development, and performance conversations.
- Partner with the technical lead to ensure the team has the necessary context, capacity, and support.
- Identify delivery risks early, remove organizational blockers, and coordinate cross-team dependencies.
- Build sustainable team practices for on-call, incidents, and support.
- Coordinate with product and partner engineering teams to align priorities and handoffs.
Requirements
- 10+ years of experience.
- Strong production Rust proficiency, with experience shipping and operating Rust systems.
- Direct engineering management experience, including hiring, coaching, performance management, and delivery accountability.
- Experience building and operating complex backend or platform systems.
- Ability to earn the trust of senior engineers and technical leads.
- Capacity to balance team health, delivery commitments, and technical investment.
- Clear communication skills across engineering, product, and other partners.
