About the Role
The Behavioral Health Assessment Officer (BHAO) will conduct psychiatric evaluations for patients in the emergency department and on acute inpatient units. Responsibilities include triage, crisis intervention, suicide risk assessment, safety planning, and coordinating care with hospital and community providers. The role also involves administering rating scales, collecting patient-reported outcomes, and consulting with psychiatrists to develop treatment plans.
Responsibilities
- Provide psychiatric evaluations, triage, and brief crisis interventions.
- Conduct suicide risk assessments and safety planning.
- Coordinate with hospital and community providers for patient care facilitation.
- Administer rating scales and collect patient-reported outcomes.
- Consult with assigned psychiatrist regarding patient assessment and treatment planning.
- Relay assessment and treatment plan information to medical care teams.
Requirements
- Must possess LMSW in NYS or obtain within 12 months of hire or transfer.
- Must be licensed by the State of New York (LMSW/LCSW/LCSW-R).
- Demonstrate competency in providing cognitive and behavioral interventions within an emergency department or inpatient setting.
- Internship/work experience in a mental health setting providing suicide risk assessments and safety planning.
- At least 1-2 years of experience working in an emergency room setting providing mental health evaluations.
