About the Role
Own the end-to-end data and BI layer for a CTRM platform, responsible for ingesting, modeling, and presenting market and trading data to stakeholders. This role involves making key architecture and tooling decisions and working directly with traders, operations, the commercial team, senior data scientists, and founders.
Responsibilities
- Develop and manage ingestion pipelines (ELT/ETL) from internal systems and external market data providers.
- Build and maintain a central commodity data model including prices, curves, cargoes, flows, deals, positions, and costs.
- Create dashboards and reports for price analysis, spreads, cargo flows, and margin.
- Implement data quality, lineage, and reconciliation processes.
- Establish and document single, agreed-upon data definitions.
- Translate trader requirements into working analytics quickly and iteratively.
- Evaluate and recommend new data sources, tools, and integrations.
Requirements
- 4+ years of experience as a Data Engineer, BI Developer, Analytics Engineer, or in a comparable role with production pipeline and reporting ownership.
- Strong SQL skills.
- Proficiency in Python for pipelines, automation, and analysis (pandas, SQLAlchemy or similar).
- Experience with data modeling techniques (dimensional modeling, star schemas, dbt or equivalent).
- Hands-on experience with a BI tool (Power BI, Tableau, Metabase, or Superset) from requirement to reliable dashboard.
- Experience in commodity markets, ideally crude oil and refined products.
- Demonstrated ability to work with coding agents, including verification habits and testing transformations.
- Comfortable working directly with traders and commercial staff, explaining data issues in their terms.
- Professional English proficiency for presenting work and defending design decisions.
- Professional proficiency in Russian.
