About the Role
This role involves UX requirements elicitation, design, modeling, prototyping, and validation within an Agile and SAFe delivery framework. You will contribute to a design system and ensure consistent design practices while working with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality UX work.
Responsibilities
- Participate in and lead UX elicitation activities with operational users and customers, including observation, interviews, workshops, and task analysis.
- Translate findings into user profiles, user journeys, task flows, and scenarios for team design and testing.
- Write clear, verifiable UX requirements and acceptance criteria, maintaining traceability in the program's requirements tool.
- Collaborate with systems engineers and human factors specialists to integrate HMI requirements and safety considerations into the design.
- Produce wireframes, high-fidelity screens, and interactive prototypes in Figma for realistic operational scenarios.
- Adhere to team Figma practices for file structure, naming, components, variables, and versioning.
- Prepare clear handoffs for developers using Dev Mode and interaction specifications.
- Utilize prototypes to test concepts with users prior to development.
- Design consistently with the solution's design system, utilizing its foundations, components, and patterns.
- Propose and build new components and patterns through the design system's contribution process, including documentation, states, and accessibility.
- Verify with front-end developers that built components align with the Figma source.
- Work within agile teams in a SAFe Agile Release Train, contributing to PI Planning and estimating UX Stories.
- Attend team events such as refinement, planning, reviews, and retrospectives.
- Ensure design work is ready ahead of development and review built features against the design before acceptance.
- Demonstrate UX work at iteration reviews and System Demos.
- Plan and conduct usability tests and heuristic reviews, documenting findings and driving design changes.
- Deliver assigned UX work packages on schedule and to quality standards.
- Raise risks early and contribute UX inputs to design reviews and customer HMI reviews.
- Follow and contribute to the improvement of Thales processes and practices.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in interaction design, human-computer interaction, human factors, industrial or visual design, computer science, or a related discipline.
- A portfolio showcasing problem, research, design decisions, and outcome is required.
- Typically 3–6 years of UX/UI design experience on software products or systems.
- Strong, hands-on Figma skills including components and variants, auto layout, variables, interactive prototyping, shared libraries, and developer handoff.
- Experience eliciting UX requirements with users and stakeholders through interviews, observation, or workshops, and translating them into requirements and design artifacts.
- Experience designing with and contributing to a design system.
- Experience working in agile teams and in a SAFe (or similar scaled agile) environment.
- Project delivery experience, including delivering UX work to a defined scope, schedule, and customer review or acceptance.
- Experience running usability tests and improving designs based on results.
- Clear communication of design decisions to engineers and stakeholders.
- Demonstrated experience in multi-cultural and multi-disciplinary teams.
- Good communication skills in English.
- Experience designing for complex, data-dense, or mission-critical systems (e.g., air traffic management, aviation, defense, control rooms, transport, healthcare) is desirable.
- Knowledge of accessibility (e.g., WCAG 2.2) and human-centered design standards (e.g., ISO 9241-210) is desirable.
- Experience with requirements management tools (e.g., DOORS, Polarion, Jama Connect) is desirable.
- Familiarity with front-end technologies (HTML, CSS, a component framework) and design tokens is desirable.
- SAFe for Teams certification is desirable.
- User-focused, curious, and makes decisions based on evidence.
- Open to feedback on design work.
- Possesses learning agility, flexibility, and pro-activity.
- Comfortable with agile teamwork and user engagement.
