About the Role
Lead a core part of our Vegetation Intelligence product area, transforming remote sensing data into actionable vegetation insights for utilities through world-class machine learning models. This foundational product is central to preventing outages and wildfires. You will advance detection models, translate their outputs into precise risk data, and build new capabilities by developing innovative products based on this data. You will report to the Director of Product and own the strategy and roadmap for this product area end-to-end.
Responsibilities
- Own the roadmap for Vegetation Intelligence, spanning ML models to customer action products.
- Advance detection models and integrate their outputs into broader risk models.
- Increase actionable insights by conducting user research and grounding priorities in customer operational decisions.
- Shift the roadmap from scaling- and technical-led to customer-driven while maintaining technical rigor.
- Collaborate with data scientists and ML engineers to translate model capabilities into shipped product value.
- Define 'good' for models in production.
- Explore customer and end-user feedback to improve model performance.
- Communicate trade-offs, model limits, and priorities clearly to the product and engineering team.
- Contribute to Overstory’s broader product strategy to ensure Vegetation Insights aligns with overall product direction.
Requirements
- 8+ years of product management experience with a proven track record of both craft and shipping speed.
- Hands-on experience building and shipping products powered by machine learning models, with an understanding of model development, training, evaluation, and improvement.
- Ability to discuss model performance and trade-offs directly with data scientists and ML engineers.
- Experience shifting a scaling- or technical-led roadmap to a customer-driven one, including conducting user research and translating it into product priorities.
- Experience working in a fast-paced startup environment, comfortable with ambiguity and making decisions with incomplete information.
- Track record of building B2B products that customers rely on daily, especially those translating data or model outputs into actionable decisions.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, capable of clarifying technical trade-offs and building team consensus.
- Experience leading product strategy and roadmapping.
- Experience building consensus across product, engineering, and data science teams.
- Experience building geospatial products or working with GIS technologies (nice-to-have).
- Experience with complex data products, including data pipelines and platforms, ingesting and processing large, diverse datasets (nice-to-have).
- Experience building machine learning products for image-based applications, such as computer vision or image recognition (nice-to-have).
