About the Role
STARK is seeking a Senior Software Engineer (Frontend Systems) to enhance its mission management software. This role requires a frontend systems thinker who can balance rapid delivery with a deep understanding of the overall system architecture and the frontend's role within it. The engineer will build and evolve the frontend into a robust, high-performance architecture, navigate hardware constraints, challenge backend systems, and translate complex data into a clear UI for operators under extreme cognitive load. A key aspect of the role involves setting architectural guardrails and orchestrating agentic AI workflows to solve novel integration and quality problems.
Responsibilities
- Engineer highly optimized frontend solutions that handle high-frequency telemetry and asynchronous data streams while minimizing computational load.
- Translate complex data into immediate situational awareness, managing cognitive load for operators under stress.
- Implement interfaces that are deterministic, error-tolerant, and focused on clarity.
- Align rapid delivery with long-term system health by proactively challenging APIs and data structures.
- Engineer alongside AI, setting strict architectural guardrails, validating outputs, and solving integration and quality challenges.
- Build high-performance, framework-less user interfaces (Vanilla TS, Web Components) for extreme real-world conditions.
- Act as a team multiplier by sharing knowledge, providing system design impulses, and facilitating open discussions.
Requirements
- Deep, practical expertise in Vanilla TypeScript/JavaScript and the native web platform (DOM API, Event Loop, Memory Management).
- Ability to engineer solutions that anticipate and mitigate hardware realities, including managing latency, handling data bursts, and optimizing for constrained compute and battery life.
- Practical experience integrating agent-based coding tools into workflows, structuring architecture for AI, validating output, and solving integration challenges.
- Balance rapid delivery with a critical mindset, questioning requirements and evaluating decisions from the operator's perspective.
- Maturity to moderate technical decisions, compromise, and prioritize the mission.
- Ability to travel as needed.
- Eligibility to obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance.
