About the Role
Origin's Oil & LNG Portfolio Trading team manages international financial oil, LNG and coal exposures alongside the physical LNG book. As Portfolio Trader, LNG Origination, you will set the commercial strategy on Origin's US Gulf Coast LNG position, execute it, and originate new business around it. The role trades into European and US sessions, so expect a working pattern that reflects that.
Responsibilities
- Set and execute the marketing strategy for Origin's US Gulf Coast LNG volumes, including cargo destinations, terms, and hedging.
- Manage counterparty negotiations and obligations under existing supply arrangements, analyzing contracts for trading and structured deal opportunities.
- Originate new LNG portfolio opportunities in international and domestic markets, expanding the counterparty network and market intelligence.
- Develop and execute forward hedging strategies for international oil, LNG, and coal price exposure, trading in European and US hours, and collaborating with Treasury on FX risk.
- Present monthly trading strategy and outcomes to senior management and the Risk Committee, and manage deal governance with Legal, Tax, Credit, Insurance, Treasury, and Group Finance.
Requirements
- Physical LNG trading or origination experience, including cargo marketing, term and spot deals, and negotiating MSPAs, SPAs, and confirmations.
- Minimum of three years in international energy markets in a trading, origination, or portfolio management role.
- Understanding of Australian and international energy markets.
- Fluency in pricing and derivatives for a US Gulf Coast LNG position (Henry Hub, JKM, TTF, Brent) and their spreads.
- Ability to interpret contracts for commercial value and obligations.
- Possession of a counterparty network across international LNG or a proven track record to build one rapidly.
- A degree in a quantitative discipline (e.g., finance, economics, engineering, science, mathematics).
- Ability to explain complex structures clearly to a Risk Committee.
- Effective collaboration with internal teams and senior third-party counterparts.
