About the Role

As our Senior Accountant, you’ll own significant areas of the accounting cycle, from close and financial reporting to revenue, reconciliations, and audit readiness. You’ll also help strengthen the accuracy and reliability of our financial and business reporting, including recurring revenue metrics, while contributing accounting insights to budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis. You’ll work closely with our Controller and alongside a small accounting team, bringing the judgment to work through complex accounting questions, identify root causes, and see issues through to resolution. Your experience will also help strengthen the team through shared knowledge, guidance, and better ways of working. There’s plenty to improve and build. We’re preparing for a new accounting system, exploring automation and AI, and reducing the manual work that slows us down. You’ll have the opportunity to lead meaningful improvements while helping make our accounting processes more reliable and scalable.

Responsibilities

  • Own complex accounting work, including complex journal entries and reconciliations, month-end and year-end close, financial reporting, and audit support.
  • Review reconciliations and supporting schedules prepared by the team, investigate unusual items, and ensure the close is complete and ready for Controller review.
  • Dig into the details, investigate root causes, and use sound judgment to recommend the right path forward for complex accounting questions or discrepancies.
  • Strengthen revenue accounting and reporting, including revenue recognition, deferred revenue, reconciliations, and related reporting.
  • Connect business activity with accounting records by working with teammates responsible for invoicing, receivables, and recurring revenue schedules.
  • Review accounting outputs, investigate discrepancies, and resolve complex or unusual transactions related to revenue.
  • Ensure revenue is recognized appropriately, supporting schedules reconcile to the general ledger, and financial and business reporting is accurate and reliable.
  • Ensure the accounting information behind financial and business reporting is accurate, consistent, and reliable, including the preparation and reconciliation of recurring revenue metrics.
  • Contribute accounting insights and historical context to financial analysis, budgeting, and forecasting.
  • Support cash management through short-term cash forecasting, cash flow variance analysis, and visibility into upcoming cash requirements.
  • Contribute accounting expertise to the transition to a new accounting platform, including defining requirements, improving workflows, data validation, testing, and migration.
  • Take ownership of meaningful improvements that make accounting systems and processes more efficient, reliable, and easier to use.
  • Identify recurring problems, unnecessary manual work, and opportunities to simplify processes, strengthen controls, and use automation or AI thoughtfully.
  • Turn improvement opportunities into practical improvements, while strengthening documentation, sharing knowledge, and building better coverage across the team.
  • Work closely with people across the business, including Accounting teammates, Revenue Operations, People & Culture, Leaders and budget owners, and external partners.
  • Build an understanding of Acuity’s business, accounting cycle, systems, and controls within the first three months.
  • Begin taking ownership of key accounting responsibilities, building relationships across the business, and identifying opportunities to improve how work gets done within the first three months.
  • Independently own significant areas of the accounting cycle, confidently work through complex reconciliations and accounting questions, and identify issues before they become problems within six months.
  • Turn improvement opportunities into practical changes within six months.
  • Be a trusted source of accounting expertise, handling complex work with minimal guidance and contributing improvements beyond your own responsibilities by the end of your first year.
  • Contribute to stronger processes, better controls, and greater shared knowledge and coverage across Accounting by the end of your first year.

  • Experience working across revenue recognition, invoicing, receivables, or other core accounting activities, with an understanding of how they connect through the accounting cycle.
  • Experience investigating complex accounting questions and discrepancies, applying accounting principles and professional judgment to determine the right path forward.
  • Experience supporting external audits and maintaining strong documentation, controls, and audit readiness.
  • Experience improving accounting processes, workflows, or systems to reduce manual work, strengthen reliability, and make the work more efficient.
