About the Role

You will work as one of two engineers on our system, focusing on the Python backend, data model, business logic, APIs, and integrations. You will have the opportunity to work on the frontend (Next.js, React Native) if desired. You will share responsibility and cover for your colleague, building features from the data model to the API endpoint and potentially to the screen. You will work on core topics like the budget engine, billing, the payroll pipeline, and matching, maintaining production code used by operations, caregivers, and customers. You will collaborate directly with product and the tech lead, receiving detailed specifications. This role offers freedom and real responsibility in shaping a new system with a roadmap including shift planning, analytics, a marketing module, and an ambassador platform.

Responsibilities

  • Build features from the data model through the business logic to the finished API endpoint, and all the way to the screen if you want.
  • Work on core topics like the budget engine, billing, the payroll pipeline and matching.
  • Maintain code in production that real people use every day: our operations team, caregivers, and customers with their families.
  • Work directly with product and the tech lead, no layers in between.
  • Help decide where the system goes, contributing to the roadmap which includes shift planning, analytics, a marketing module and an ambassador platform.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of experience in professional product development, more is a plus.
  • Solid Python experience in production, ideally with FastAPI and SQLAlchemy or comparable frameworks.
  • Confidence with relational databases and SQL, PostgreSQL in our case.
  • Code with AI support as a matter of course, ideally with real enthusiasm. This is a requirement.
  • Diligence where mistakes cost money or trust: billing, payments, personal data.
  • Fluent English. German is a plus.
  • Appetite for a small team with a lot of responsibility and a direct line to the people who use your software.

About the Company

  • Careship helps families find reliable support in everyday life: all across Germany, through self-employed caregivers and our own employed caregivers.
  • Behind both stands a platform we built entirely ourselves, live since August 2026: a Python backend, an internal staff portal, an app for customers and an app for caregivers.
  • The system covers everything from the first inquiry to payroll: matching, scheduling, care budgets, billing with care insurance funds, payment processing and digital contracts, plus email, chat, WhatsApp and phone calls in one inbox.
  • It is live, it runs the operations of two companies, and it grows every week.
