About the Role

Metro Bank is building trust through authentic connections and is seeking a Head of PMO to establish and lead a high-performing enterprise PMO for the bank's transformation agenda. This role is crucial for setting governance, controls, standards, and ways of working to enable safe, transparent, and outcome-focused delivery at pace.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and lead a high-performing enterprise PMO for the Bank’s transformation agenda, setting proportionate governance, controls, standards, tooling and ways of working that enable safe, transparent and outcome-focused delivery at pace.
  • Own the integrated transformation roadmap and portfolio plan, ensuring strategic priorities, milestones, dependencies, capacity, critical paths and delivery commitments are aligned and actively managed across agile, waterfall and hybrid programmes.
  • Lead portfolio planning, control and executive reporting, providing clear, data-driven insight into delivery confidence, progress, risks, issues and outcomes to enable effective senior level decision-making.
  • Drive robust portfolio governance, RAID and change control, ensuring dependencies and emerging delivery risks are identified early, appropriate escalation and recovery actions are taken, and informed trade-offs are made across scope, investment, resources and priorities.
  • Lead portfolio financial, investment and benefits management, overseeing budgets, forecasting, resource and capacity planning, business cases and benefits realisation against measurable customer, colleague and business outcomes.
  • Drive alignment across the transformation portfolio through Programme Increment (PI) Planning, portfolio prioritisation, roadmap reviews and dependency planning, ensuring delivery teams and stakeholders are aligned on priorities, commitments and outcomes.

Requirements

  • Significant experience leading an Agile enterprise PMO, Transformation Office or complex change portfolios, preferably within financial services or another highly regulated organisation, with responsibility for governance, prioritisation and delivery of strategic outcomes.
  • Strong Agile portfolio and programme management expertise, with practical knowledge of SAFe, Lean, Scrum and Kanban, and experience operating effectively across scaled Agile and hybrid delivery environments.
  • Proven experience establishing and evolving Agile PMO capability, including portfolio governance, integrated planning, controls, reporting and delivery assurance, while balancing Agile ways of working with organisational risk and compliance requirements.
  • Demonstrable experience of Agile planning and portfolio management, including Programme Increment (PI) Planning, release planning, Lean Portfolio Management, prioritisation, cross-programme dependencies and capacity/resource planning.
  • Strong financial and commercial management experience, including investment governance, budgeting, forecasting, business cases and benefits realisation across complex transformation portfolios.
  • Excellent senior stakeholder management and influencing skills, with experience providing data-driven portfolio insight, constructive challenge and decision support to Executive Committee, Board-level and senior governance forums.
  • Proven leadership of high-performing PMO and delivery teams, with strong coaching and facilitation skills and experience driving continuous improvement and Agile maturity within a complex, regulated environment.
  • Understand the risks associated with your job and what that means for you, Metro Bank and all our stakeholders.

About the Company

  • At Metro Bank, we believe the best banking experience starts with people who genuinely care.
  • We’re not just delivering banking services - we’re building trust through authentic connections.
  • Here, our people come first; our colleagues are part of a team that values individuality, collaboration, and long-standing relationships.
  • We are also all about balance so most of our jobs offer the opportunity for hybrid working built around your role and home life, wherever possible.

Equal Opportunity

  • Diverse teams really are the best teams.
  • We know that candidates (especially women, research tells us) may be put off applying for a job unless they can tick every box.
  • We also know that ‘normal’ office hours aren’t always doable, and while we can’t accommodate every flexible working request we are happy to be asked.
  • So if you are excited about working with us and think you can do much of what we are looking for but aren’t sure if you are 100% there yet… why not give it a whirl?
  • Good luck!
