It serves as a crucial liaison between the Japanese sales team and global/regional departments to capture business opportunities, resolve issues, and enhance customer satisfaction. The specialist will provide insights into products, markets, customers, and financials to support decision-making and long-term growth.

Responsibilities

  • Lead assigned product lines from a business owner's perspective, identifying needs, proposing solutions, driving execution, and achieving results.
  • Manage product line performance against sales, gross profit, budget, demand forecast, inventory, and other key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Develop and maintain product line plans, including market/customer insights, competitive analysis, pricing strategies, product roadmap recommendations, new product introduction/phase-out plans, and responses to risks and growth opportunities.
  • Collaborate with the Life Sciences sales team and distribution channels to build sales strategies, target customer settings, value propositions, and opportunity follow-up measures.
  • Analyze customer opportunity pipelines, sales performance trends, market signals, and sales department information to improve demand visibility and forecast accuracy, participating in SIOP discussions as needed.
  • Partner with Quality, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Customer Service, Technical Support, Regulatory Affairs, and Global Product Line Management to drive issue resolution while respecting each department's responsibilities.
  • Support technical and commercial communication with customers, including product inquiries, quality complaints, change notifications, and translation/localization efforts.
  • Contribute to profitability improvement through price revisions, cost reductions, inventory and SLOB reduction, and operational improvements.
  • Work closely with Global Product Line Managers and manufacturing sites to stay informed and provide feedback from the Japanese market.
  • Execute projects and tasks assigned by the supervisor, contributing to team operational improvements and knowledge sharing.

Requirements

  • Product management and product knowledge within the Life Sciences division, understanding product applications, value propositions, product lifecycles, new product introduction/phase-out processes, and quality requirements.
  • Knowledge of demand forecasting and SIOP, with the ability to build data-driven forecasts and explain supply chain risks and business impacts.
  • Ability to support pricing strategies, value-based selling, sales initiatives, and distribution channel strategies.
  • Cross-functional communication and coordination skills, fostering collaboration with Sales, Marketing, Quality, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Customer Service, Global Product Line Management, and external partners.
  • Financial acumen, including understanding of sales, gross profit, profitability, pricing, inventory, SLOB, ROIC, and budget management.
  • Understanding of the Life Sciences market and customers, including customer segmentation, identification of customer needs and unmet needs, and competitive analysis, with the ability to translate these into sales initiatives.
  • English and Japanese communication skills (verbal, email, presentation, conference calls, translation/localization, negotiation, persuasion).
  • English proficiency equivalent to TOEIC (specific criteria based on company regulations).
  • Ability to handle uncertainty and prioritize tasks, organizing ambiguous issues, defining responsible parties, and managing multiple priorities while determining next actions.
  • Ownership and proactive execution, identifying needs, proposing solutions, and driving actions without waiting for instructions.
