About the Role
This is a hands-on leadership role where you will spend around 70-80% of your time building software and the remainder leading a team of engineers in Sydney. You will set the technical direction, coach engineers, and contribute to hiring efforts. Your team will own critical parts of the ROLLER platform, including memberships, loyalty programs, and internationalization.
Responsibilities
- Line manage engineers, including conducting 1:1s, performance reviews, and supporting career growth.
- Set technical direction and break down work for the engineering team.
- Unblock team members and ensure delivery progress.
- Coach engineers through code reviews, pairing, and providing feedback.
- Contribute to building the Sydney team by participating in interviews and maintaining hiring standards.
- Build backend services, APIs, and Angular interfaces.
- Partner with product managers and designers from discovery through release.
- Challenge the user experience and technical approach.
- Collaborate with the SRE team to monitor system performance and proactively identify issues.
Requirements
- Six-plus years in software engineering, including experience as a tech lead, lead engineer, or senior engineer.
- Desire to line manage people.
- Deep backend experience in C# and .NET.
- Sufficient front-end experience to work comfortably across the stack.
- Deep knowledge of cloud patterns and application/database performance.
- Experience applying cloud patterns and performance optimization to various workflows and workloads.
- Experience leading a production incident through to post-mortem and resolution.
- Experience mentoring engineers.
- Willingness to push back on product decisions when the user experience is not right.
- Proficiency and curiosity in embracing AI and technology.
- Experience using AI tools to automate repetitive tasks.
