About the Role
This role is a critical component of the First Line of Defense within MUFG's Global Corporate & Investment Banking (GCIB) Business Unit Risk & Control team. It is responsible for leading the end-to-end execution of the RCSA program, identifying, assessing, monitoring, and mitigating operational and non-financial risks across a diverse portfolio of corporate and investment banking products and services. The selected colleague will partner closely with business, product, operations, compliance, and risk management stakeholders to strengthen the overall risk and control environment.
Responsibilities
- Execute the Risk & Control Self-Assessment (RCSA) program across GCIB, partnering with senior business leaders, first line teams, and enterprise risk stakeholders to identify, assess, and mitigate operational risks in accordance with the non-financial risk framework.
- Conduct RCSA activities including process and risk taxonomy alignment, inherent-risk assessment, control identification and mapping, control design and operating-effectiveness evaluation, residual-risk determination, issue and action-plan linkage, trigger-based and periodic reassessments, documentation and evidence standards, and system-of-record maintenance.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to business and risk leadership on RCSA program standards, risk governance, control effectiveness, emerging risks, and regulatory expectations, providing credible review and challenge and recommendations.
- Partner with business, product, process, and control owners to ensure clear ownership of identified risks, controls, issues, and remediation actions.
- Leverage and apply knowledge of regulations by embedding its impact and applicability in the RCSA through execution of the compliance engagement model.
- Develop and present clear, decision-oriented risk and control reporting for senior management and governance committees, including material exposures, control weaknesses, residual-risk concerns, emerging risks, overdue actions, and matters requiring escalation.
- Establish continuous monitoring metrics to provide meaningful insight into risk exposure, monitor key risk indicators, key control indicators, thresholds, and other risk metrics to identify changes in risk exposure, control performance, loss events, and issue-remediation status; escalate breaches and adverse trends.
- Support GCIB teams with ad hoc requests for information and real-time risk management inquiries.
- Act as a subject matter expert for GCIB when collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders, including Compliance, Legal, Operational Risk, Audit, Technology, and Operations teams, to strengthen the overall control environment.
- Coach junior team members and contribute to team capability development.
- Identify opportunities to use approved automation, analytics, and artificial-intelligence tools to improve the efficiency, consistency, and quality of RCSA activities, in accordance with applicable information-security, data-privacy, records-management, and technology-risk requirements.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business, Economics, Risk Management, Accounting, or related discipline.
- 7+ years of experience in risk management, operational risk, controls, audit, corporate and investment banking, or a related financial services function.
- Strong understanding of banking products, operational risk frameworks, and control management principles.
- Strong experience with RCSA process documentation, risk and control assessments, and operational risk frameworks.
- Excellent skills in risk assessment analysis, governance, and reporting; solid understanding of business and financial markets.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present technical information effectively to diverse audiences.
- Ability to analyze risk trends and identify indicators of changing risk levels.
- Senior stakeholder management experience and ability to establish rapport, credibility, trust, and respect throughout the organization.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, highly regulated environment.
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and commitment to delivering high-quality work.
