About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Band 6 Speech and Language Therapist (SALT) for a locum position at London Bridge Hospital. This role requires a clinician with a critical care background, capable of independently managing complex communication and swallowing needs, including tracheostomy management.
Responsibilities
- Assess and manage patients with complex speech, language, communication and swallowing difficulties within a critical care setting.
- Independently assess and manage patients with tracheostomies, ensuring safe and effective clinical practice.
- Develop and implement individualised treatment plans based on patients’ clinical needs.
- Work collaboratively with the wider multidisciplinary team to support patient recovery and rehabilitation.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date clinical documentation in line with professional and organisational standards.
- Provide clinical recommendations to support safe and effective patient management.
- Predominantly work at London Bridge Hospital, with occasional reviews required at the Guy’s site.
- Undertake Fibreoptic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES) and Videofluoroscopic Swallowing Assessments (VFSS) where suitably qualified and experienced.
Requirements
- A recognised degree in Speech and Language Therapy (or equivalent).
- Current Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) registration.
- Proven clinical experience working within a critical care environment.
- Demonstrable experience and confidence in the independent management of patients with tracheostomies.
- Strong clinical reasoning, assessment and decision-making skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- The ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
