About the Role

As a Project Engineer Intern at XL Construction, you’ll apply classroom learning to real-world construction projects. You will gain hands-on experience with daily activities, exposure to project documentation, estimating, procurement, scheduling, quality control, safety, and field coordination. This role offers an opportunity to build skills, grow your professional network, and understand the technical and business aspects of construction.

Responsibilities

Support Project Managers, Project Engineers, and Superintendents with day-to-day project coordination and administration.
Assist with project documentation, including drawings, specifications, RFIs, submittals, and project logs.
Participate in project meetings, job walks, and coordination meetings, and assist with documenting action items and follow-up activities.
Gain exposure to estimating and preconstruction activities, including quantity takeoffs, bid packages, and subcontractor coordination.
Assist with procurement, change management, and schedule tracking to understand how these activities impact project delivery.
Spend time in the field observing construction activities and learning about construction materials, methods, sequencing, quality control, and safety.
Support project closeout activities, including punch-list items and project documentation.
Build relationships with XL team members, trade partners, design partners, clients, and other project stakeholders while demonstrating XL’s values and commitment to professionalism and safety.

Requirements

Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, or another related field.
Interest in pursuing a career in construction and learning about commercial construction project management.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work collaboratively as part of a project team and build positive working relationships.
Demonstrated initiative, curiosity, and willingness to ask questions and learn from others.
Ability to manage multiple assignments, prioritize responsibilities, and meet deadlines.
